A widespread butterfly in the southern USA, it migrates as far as the West Indies.
Another beautiful butterfly, the malachite is named for the bright green patterning on top of its wings - which I was unfortunately unable to get a good photograph of because the butterfly was so active. The underwings are also attractive though, and I think they complement the beauty of the rose quiet well. In hindsight the rose is not the best flower to use here as it tends to overpower the butterfly.
