Luna Moths (American Moon-moth)
Actias luna

Male below, female above. The male's feathered antennae are used to locate females by following their pheromone trail.

A striking moth found in Mexico and the U.S. As with most moths, easy to photograph as they are relatively inactive during the day. Fairly large and heavy, so requires a sturdy perch. These specimens were sent to me as chrysalises by a butterfly breeder friend in the USA.
